    'Daniel Locher, the eldest son of Philip Grove, by his second wife, married Margaret C. Shafer, a daughter of Jonathan Shafer, of Boonsboro, and suceeded his brother, Jacob H. Grove, in the mercantile business in Sharpsburg. He was elected a member of the Maryland Legislature on the Democratic ticket in 1853, and held an important position in the Custom House at Baltimore under the administration of President Buchanan. In 1861, he settled in the village of Liberty, Frederick county, Md., where he died February 4, 1868.'
