Tractor mishap kills youth

RICKARDSVILLE, Ia. -- Daniel Donovan, 16, of Rt. 2, Durango, was killed last night when the tractor he was driving went out of control on a county gravel road three miles southwest of here and rolled over on him.

Donovan's 15-year-old brother, David, who was riding on the tractor, was thrown clear of the tipped vehicle and suffered only minor bruises.

Dubuque County Deputy Sheriff James Barry said the accident occurred about 9 pm within a quarter-mile of the family home.

Daniel J. Donovan, 16, of Rt. 1, Durango, died at 9:15 pm Tuesday as the result of a tractor accident near his home.

Services will be at 10 am Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Rickardsville, Ia., with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call after 2 pm Thursday at the Hoffmann Mortuary, where the New Liturgical Rite will be held at 8 pm Thursday.

Daniel was born in Dubuque and would have been a senior at Hempstead High School this fall.

Surviving are his parents, Gerald W. and Joan (Dougherty) Donovan; two brothers, David and Dennis, and a sister, Mary Kay, all at home; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Richard Donovan, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Dougherty, all of Dubuque.
