Daniel Brothers, Prominent Local Merchant, Dies [d April 25, 1959]

Daniel R. Brothers, 79, owner of Brothers Furniture Store, died this morning at his home at Lake Worth, Fla. following a short ilness. Mr. Brothers had spent most of his life in Marietta. He and Mrs. Brothers were co-owners of Brothers Furniture Store which they established about 53 yrs. ago on Front St.

Following extensive damage to the store during the 1913 flood, the furniture store was re-established at it's present location at 719 Greene St., where it has been in operation for approximately 33 years.

Mr. Brothers was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Marietta and a charter member of the Marietta Civitan Club. He was also a member of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce and held a life membership in BPOE No. 477.

Born Aug. 14, 1879, at Sarahsville, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Margaret Westbrook Brothers. On Aug. 1, 1906, he married Elsie Meister who survives.

Survivors in addition to his widow include one daughter, Mrs Betty Strance, of Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren. He was preceeded in death by one son, Robert Brothers; five brothers, John, Wesley, Joseph, William and Noah and two sisters Mrs. Ella Barnes and Mrs. Deborah Matheny.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The body will arrive in Marietta Monday evening.
