How the name VanValkenburgh become about Added by gwencir on 15 May 2008

Joseph Volek, a falconer of the Crown of Holland, was presented with several thousand acres of land in the State of Lambery and with a title of Van, meaning landowner by grant of the Legislative powers of the Republic of the United States of Holland, thus he became Van Vokck and the town thus sprung up on his estate was known as Valckburg, the present population of which is about 1300. There is a conflict of theories as to the origin of the name; one is Falconberg or Falcon Mountain or "as high as the Falcon flies", another is that Valkenburgh means Castle in the clouds. The name always is spelled "burgh" in its early history.
