History of Sussex & Warren Co., NJ, pg. 674: "The Scott's Mountain Presbyterian Church - On the 29th of November 1815, the Presbyterian Church of Scott's Mountain was organized. Four ruling elders were elected, - namely, John P. Weller, William Kinney, Henry Snyder and David Beers - and five trustees: P.P. Weller, Abner Park, Ernest Mann, Jacob Cole and Cornelius Slack." Deeds from Warren Co., NJ, indicate that Cornelius Slack was the father of Rebecca Slack, wife of William Rush, and further deeds in the index seem to indicate that Cornelius father's name was Charles or Peter Slack. May 1851, Oxford Twp., Warren Co., NJ, William Rush sells (after the death of his wife in April, 1851, to John S. Lanning for $300, 4 acres 3 rods and 28 perches of ground in Oxford Twp. Beginning at a post - side of the road - corner to LAND FORMERLY OF CORNELIUS SLACK, NOW CHARLES SLACK, ALONG LANDS OWNED BY CHARLES SLACK, then by land owned by Philip Foss - BEING THE SAME LOT OF LAND WHICH CORNELIUS SLACK AND WIFE CONVEYED TO WILLIAM RUSH ON 14 MAR 1812 - Recorded in SUSSEX CO. A copy of the transfer from Cornelius Slack to William Rush recorded in 1812 in Sussex Co., may confirm this. |
