Facts and Events
Signing inventory as nearest of kin were Hester Edmondson and John Comegys. Inventory of Cornelius is strange. He had 3 horses and 8 lambs which doesn't sound like he farmed. He also had 2500# pork, 183# beef and 47 barrels of corn. Was he a merchant? While no evidence as to the parents of Cornelius UC [1] has been discovered, some evidence indicates he is a son of Edward Comegys [II] and his wife Mary Thraul. Evidence to support this belief includes: Cornelius was a Quaker. He didn't own land which is the case for all sons other than the eldest in this line. He became a merchant which is common in this line for other than the eldest. Edward [III] named a son Cornelius shortly after his death. William UC [32] followed Joseph Comegys C 1717 to Duck Creek MM by in 1802. Evidence against the theory are that a Hester Edmondson and John Comegys signed his inventory as nearest kin. The names Hester and John are unknown in the C 17 line. Either son Benjamin, Francis, Cornelius or John is the father of Sarah E Comegys mentioned in the will of Jesse Comegys. References
