Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - January 7, 2008 BERNARD, Iowa - Cornelius W. "Neil" Bruck, 89, of Bernard, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Heritage Manor, Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke, the Rev. Neil Manternach, the Rev. Donald Bruck and the Rev. Xavier Deitiker officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fillmore, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born on June 20, 1918, in Earling, son of William and Clara (Windeshausen) Bruck. He received his education in the Portsmouth area schools. Neil was a World War II Navy veteran, having served on the USS Simpson. He married Amelia Regan on Jan. 22, 1946, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Motte. The couple farmed in the rural La Motte and Bernard area. Neil was an avid baseball player. In 2001, he was inducted into the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame. He also coached Babe Ruth and Little League. Neil was a 4-H leader for the Fillmore Progressors. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Fillmore, a 51-year member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528, a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930 and the Bernard Commercial Club. Surviving are his wife, Amelia Bruck, of Bernard; seven children, Susan Bruck-Powell, of Dubuque, Tim (Betty) Bruck, of Cascade, Tom (Bonnie) Bruck, of Zwingle, David (Mary) Bruck, of Dennison, Ken (Marilyn) Bruck and Dennis (Kathy) Bruck, both of Dubuque, and Ruth (Joe) Sieverding, of Belle vue; 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Mark (Helen) Bruck, of Portsmouth, William "Bill" (Millie) Bruck, of La Motte, Helen Langenfeld, of Spencer, and Clara (Dick) Carroll, of Harlan; and a sister-in-law, Ursula Bruck, of Portsmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Bruck, on Feb. 2, 1976; a son-in-law, Arthur Powell; a great-grandson, Matthew Karl Bruck; brothers and sisters, Joe (Orvie) Bruck, Nick (Alma) Bruck, Rita (Roscoe) Koenig and Mike Bruck; and a brother-in-law, Dewey Langenfeld.
