Facts and Events
marriage record for son “George Caspar Diedrich” in Jacksonport, DOor, WI - has place of origin as KLINGS KALTENNORDHEIM, but church records show that he was born in Theobaldshof (Tann), Fulda in Hessen, just across the 'border'. Theobaldshof KB Bild 168 Conrad Diedrich 3d Kind, 2 Sohn v: Conrad Diedrich, Tageslöhner, Theobaldshof m. Kunigunda geb Gutmann 20 Jul 1837, tauf: 22 Jul Tann According to Emily Dietrich Zemke, the Dietrichs were farmers in Germanyand were from Dusseldorf. They all spoke the Saxon dialect of German. After some research, I think that Conrad & Christina Dietrich & familywere from Thuringen, Germany, not Dusseldorf. (Thuringen was part ofthe former East Germany) Some of the town names showing up on old photosinclude Dermbach, Erfurt, Diedorf, I have tried to piece together the migrations of the Conrad Dietrich clanin the U.S. based on census information. According to the 1900 Census(Shawnee County, Kansas) Conrad Dietrich and his wife, ChristinaElisabeth Gunther arrived in the U.S. in 1883, the same year as John. I do have dates for their four children:
I do not know how accurate all these years of emigration to the U.S. are,but they were obtained from the U.S. census records. The John Dietrich, Caspar Dietrich, & Caspar Bittorf families appear tohave been in: 1882 - 1896 /1897 Jacksonport, Door County, Wisconsin 1895 State Census Door County Jacksonsport - Conrad Dedrich 2 male 2 female , all 4 born in Germany 1897 - 1900 or 1901 South Boston, Halifax County, Virginia (This is southern Virginia near the North Carolina border) 1900 - 1904 Shawnee County, Kansas (somewhere near Topeka) After 1902 or 1904 Wisconsin (Turtle Lake, BarronCounty) Adolph & Hattie Dietrich stayed in Wisconsin during this entire timeperiod, and lived in Jacksonport, Door County, WI. According to a biographical sketch of Kaspar Dietrich in the "History ofBarron County" (1922): "After attending common school in his native land, he came to America atthe age of thirteen with his parents, who located at Jacksonport, Wis. " If this is accurate, then Conrad, Christina & Kaspar came to the U.S. in1883 or 1884. Conrad's headstone inscription at Silver Creek Cemetery: " Ich weissdass mein erloeser lebt" References
