Columbus Phillips was in the Civil War as a member of the Missouri Home Guard in 1862 Then enlisted in the State militia, Co D., 72nd Regiment . He was in the battle of Springfield when Marmaduke make his raid. He was also in a skirmish at Black Run, AK. He was taken prisioner in Southeast Missouri and was paroled. He served three years.. He was Baptist and a Republican. He was a farmer.
