Harpel, a former presser at the Sun-Lite Shop, Souderton, for 41 years, died Saturday at his home, 2309 E. Vine st., Hatfield. He was 57 and had been in failing health for three years.Mr. Harpel had been employed by the clothing manufacturer since 1939, and discontinued working inn February 1971 because of illness.He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hatfield, where he was a former member of the council, and a former secretary of both the brotherhood and Sunday school. He was also a member of the Hatfield Cemetery board.He and his wife, the former Laura Bergey, celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in April of this year.Mr. Harpel was born in Sumneytown, Marlborough Township, the son of the late Silas M. and Sallie A. (Schwager) Harpel.Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children, Mrs, Ianthia Gommel, Philadelphia; Clara, wife of Durrell Moyer, Souderton; Gertrude, wife of Wilmer Rosenberger, Telford; Laura, wife of the Rev. Steven Boughter, Gilbertsville; George, Hatfield; Miss Nancy Harpel, at home; eight grandchildren; brother and sisters, Russell L., Telford; Howard S., Telford; Carrie C. wife of Jacob Devine, Sumneytown; Preston S., Telford; Verna M., wife of Edward Barnes, Hatfield and Herbert L., Souderton.Services were held Wednesday morning at the Grace Lutheran Church, Hatfield, with interment in Frieden's Union Cemetery, Sumneytown.The Jay C. Kriebel Funeral Home, Hatfield, was in charge of arrangements.
