While Christopher (Kit) was clearing land on his home place, probably in the spring of 1843, a log fell on him and broke his back. Still alive , but an invalid, Kit was not healing as fast as wife Sarah thought he could and decided to pack up the family with Kit in the back of the wagon and head back to Buckingham County, Virginia where Sarah hoped the Buckingham Springs would restore his health. Kit died about three months later and is presumed buried in Sarah's father's burying ground on the Morris plantation. (Ron L. Hooper)
