4. Christopher Tompkins (1775-1854) came to Kentucky with his father John (2) Tompkins in 1794. He studied law under the Hon. John Breckenridge. He removed to Henderson County where his successful professional career was commenced and from whence he was sent to the legislature as the representative of Henderson and Muhlenburg Counties in 1805. At an early age he was appointed circuit judge for the Glasgow district and removed to Barren County where he resided till his death. He resigned in 1824 to make the race for governor but was defeated by Gen. Joseph Desha. From the close of the canvass in 1824 until his election to Congress in 1831, Judge Tompkins applied himself to the labors of a large and lucrative practice. He remained in Congress four years, when upon his refusal to become a candidate for a third term, he was appointed judge over his former district and held office until his voluntary retirement from all public life at the age of sixty seven.
He married May 13, 1806 Theodosia Logan daughter of Col. John Logan and Jane McClure his wife and a sister of Mary Logan who married Major James Blaine whose daughter Mary Jane Blaine married William (4) May Tompkins. They had three sons and four daughters.
