Facts and Events
Badcock is predominantly a Cornish name, the parish registers of Bodmin, for example, record the baptisms of Gregory, William, Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary and Jesse, children of John Badcocke between 1564 and 1579. More recently Samuel Badcock (1747-1788) a theological critic was minister of South Molton, Devon 1778-1786 COATS-OF-ARMS: It is noticeable that the early coats-of-arms of this family bore the suffix “Cock” as a symbol. No less than three shields are shown of the Badcocks in Cornwall (including Shebbear in Devonshire) and although the ordinaries are different, yet the charges in each case are three cocks. Without doubt the Badcocks of Devon, Somerset and Cornwall sprang from a common origin, but in any case our investigations show that the Badcocks of Cornwall may be treated separately from the Devon and Somerset branch. |
