Facts and Events
no date [ca. 1873], Ada Wyckoff Hopkins wrote her cousin Jane Love: "I received a letter from Sarah Dolby in which she writes that . . . Evan Watts, wife & one child* are dead." Correspondence from the family letters and papers of Jane Love and her cousin, Lillice Jones Harper, courtesy John, Danny, and Dave Harper in 2001 and 2004, transcribed by Brenda Boyer
Chester Watts, son of E & A, is buried near his mother in Bodkin Cemetery, Vance Twp., Vermilion Co., IL; the transcription has that he d. in Jan. 1881 which is not correct. Chester died before March 26, 1875, when Samuel Dalbey appeared in Vermilion County Court with Byron Watts who asked that Samuel be appointed his guardian. Samuel also requested the court appoint him guardian of Ida and Alberta Watts as their parents were both dead. This suggests that Byron, Ida, and Alberta were Evan and Angeline's only surviving children. --Gary Purviance, e-mail attachment, Jan. 3, 2005 |
