!OBIT: Salt Lake Tribune Chester Udell Mortensen Chester Udell Mortensen died peacefully in his sleep at LDS Hospital on April 10, 1992. Born in Virden, New Mexico on December 21, 1919 to Peter and Mary Catherine Andersen Mortensen. Married Janet Udall on April 10, 1947 in the LDS Temple, Mesa, Arizona. They have six children. Served in England during World War II. Graduated from BYU in 1947 and moved to Modesto, California where he became part-owner in a farm implement business and later administrator of a hospital. Relocated to Salt Lake in 1979 where he worked as an accountant to a local printing company. Member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings as Stake Clerk, Ward Clerk, Counselor in Bishoprics, member of Stake High Council, youth leader and home teacher. He loved church work. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years; three sons and three daughters, Craig C., John R., Thomas E. and Amy Liljenquist, all of Salt Lake City; Denise Lerch of El Toro, Calif.; and Sally Barrett of Plano, Texas; 16 grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, Marion Mortensen of Mesa, Arizona; Lucinda Crum and Maybeth McDonald of Silver City, New Mexico and Dorothy Jones of Duncan, Arizona; and many cherished friends. He dearly loved his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services 12:00 noon, Tuesday, April 14th, Salt Lake 13th Ward, 375 East 100 South. Friends may call Monday evening 6 - 8 p.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, or at the Ward on Tuesday, 11 - 11:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
