Word was received in Windfall early Saturday of the death Saturday morning at Scottsburg of Charles VanWinkle, 82 years of age, native of this county and a resident of the Windfall community for more than 63 years. Death followed complications arising from paralysis, he having been in very feeble health for several years. Mr. VanWinkle made his last visit to Windfall and attended the annual reunion of the old Five Points school this past summer.
The deceased was one of the highly respected residents of the Windfall community for many years, and news of his death was received with regret. It was stated the body was being returned to Windfall for burial in Brookside cemetery, but full funeral arrangements were not given.
Charles VanWinkle was a son of Joseph and Amelia (Scott) VanWinkle, early settlers of the Windfall community where both died. He was one of a family of
several children. Of the children one brother, Ernest, resides in Elwood, and a sister, Mrs. John W. Riffe, at Kokomo.
The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Julia Dennis, the widow, surviving with a foster son, Charles Basho, who resides in the West. Mrs. VanWinkle
is a sister of Colonel E. Dennis of Windfall. Charles VanWinkle for a number of years was a clerk in the Windfall Dry Goods Company's store and while residing in that town was a member of the once famous Windfall band. Two members of that band, I. M. O'Banion and Ben Vice, reside in Tipton.
The late Mrs. John A. Swoveland was a sister of the deceased.
Charles VanWinkle was a man who throughout the long years had the confidence and respect of all and he leaves in this county a large, number of, distant relatives and friends who regret much to learn of his death.
