On Wednesday afternoon at Windfall, Mrs. Celesta Pulley, wife of James M. Pulley, died after a three year illness. Surviving are the husband, James Milton Pulley, Mrs. J.A. Swoveland, of Tipton, a sister; Mrs. J.W. Riffe, of Indianapolis, a sister; and a brother C.L. VanWinkle, of near Scottsburg. A half-brother, Ernest VanWinkle, resides in Elwood, and a half-sister, Mrs. Leota Johnson, resides in Kokomo. Mrs. Emily Legg VanWinkle, stepmother, resides in Windfall. Celesta VanWinkle Pulley was born in Crawford county, Jan. 15, 1855, being the fifth of nine children born to Joseph and Amelia (Scott) VanWinkle. Her parents located in Windfall in 1864, removing here from Crawford county, when she was a girl of nine years. The mother died in 1875 and the father later remarried with Miss Emily Legg, of Windfall. His death occurred in 19112. On the 24th day of October, 1875, the deceased was united in marriage to James Milton Pulley. Mrs. Pulley was the mother of three children, all of whom preceded the mother to the grave. A son died at the age of three months, while the family resided in Corinth, Ky., and the babe was buried in that place. Maude, a daughter, died of tuberculosis at the age of 22, and is buried at Windfall. Another daughter was married to Joseph Plummer, of Tipton, her death occurring August 7, 1914, leaving surviving two daughters, Madeline and Katherine, of Tipton, who are the only grandchildren.
