Source: VA Newsletter Vol 21 Num 3, 15aug2004 Charles Wesley VA was born in Michigan on 13 March 1839. On 8 March 1866 he married Sarah J. Bonar at Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Sara was born in July 1 842. In 1862, before the marriage, he enlisted in Co. E of the 4th Michigan Cavalry. In August 1864 he was a 1st Lieutenant in Co. B 101st U.S. Colored Infantry and then promoted to Captain and mustered out in January 1866. It was not long afterward that he married Sarah. This couple had five children. Abigail Elizabeth was born 30 April 18 69 and married Arthur Amy who was a Presbyterian minister. William Bonar's birthday was 23 March 1874 and he married Blanch Gates. The third child was Henry Dwight, born 2 October 1876. His wife's maiden name was Ryan. He was a conductor on the C&NW Railroad. Carolyn Isabel, born 9 May 1 879, married Walter Blackeslee a Congregational minister, and Mary Katherine, born 24 Feb 1882, married L.N. Gates; they went to British India in 19 15 as missionaries.
