Charles Thompson was born in 1842 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, son of a straw plaiter named Hannah Thompson, formerly Swallow, and her husband William Thompson, an agricultural labourer and straw factor. Charles appears in the 1851 census living with his parents and siblings in Wheathampstead. He has yet to be researched after 1851.
