In Memoriam, from Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, Headquarters Commandery of the State of Missouri: Circular No. 3, St. Louis, June 8, 1925. "He had an active and distinguished military service. He first enlisted May 5, 1861, as a private in Co. E., 11th Ill. Infantry for three months and re-enlisted July 30, 1861 for 3 years and was appointed 2nd sergeant of his company. By meritorious service he was promoted to 1st Sergeant, 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and Captain. He was in all the marches, battles, and sieges in which regiment was engaged from the capture of Ft. Donelson and battle of Shiloh, April 6, 1862, to the seige and capture of Spanish Fort, Mobile Bay, April 8, 1865. He was honorably discharged July 14, 1865, after a service of more than four years. He was elected a companion through the Missouri Commandery March 12, 1887. Insignia No. 5282. |
