Facts and Events
The son of a postman, Charles Morland was born in Durham and moved to Gateshead with his parents. He was a telegraph operator in the post office, and it was there he met his future wife, Mary (Marie) McGillivray. In 1926 Charles and his youngest brother Arthur visited Inverness to meet his future in-laws. Charles was called up to the army during World War two because of his telegraphy skills, even though he was in his forties at the time which was old for a conscript. He was sent to Germany where he telegraphed the results of the Nuremberg trials back to London. His hobby was photography and he developed his own prints and slides. References
