Charles Walker McClaugherty was born on 1 December 1826, in Giles, Virginia, United States, his father, John McClaugherty, was 44 and his mother, Sarah "Sallie" Walker, was 34. He married Eliza Jane Kyle on 13 February 1849, in Botetourt, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Pearisburg, Giles, Virginia, United States in 1870. He died in 1906, at the age of 80.
