- ↑ "Charles Clink was born in Sandusky County, Ohio, in 1838, a son of Georgia and Kathryn Clink. He was reared and educated in his native County, remaining there until 20 years of age when he came to Steuben County, Indiana. He lived in Steuben Township about three years, and then returned to Ohio. In the spring of 1861 he came again to Steuben County, and August 25, enlisted in Company A., 44th Indiana Infantry.After serving two years he was discharged with his regiment at Chattanooga, for the purpose of reenlisting, and then served till September 14, 1865. He served in the ranks about three years and then it was promoted to Sergeant. He participated in all the battles of his regiment except Shiloh, when he was on the sick list, although he was on the field part of the time. Among the more important of the battles of the regiment were Fort Donelson, Stone River, and Chickamauga. After his returne to Steuben County he married Kathryn Ritter, daughter of Henry Ritter, of Steuben Township. They had five children -- Mary C.,Jenny E., Carrie M., Mattie L. and Nellie. One daughter, Laura E., died in her seventh year. In April, 1869, Mr. Clink bought a farm of 120 acres, 80 acres on section 14 and 40 acres on section 23, Salem Township, where she has since lived. His residence is located on section 14. He learned the carpenters trade in his youth, and has always given his attention to a in a greater or less degree. It's farm is one of the best in the Township, and his improvements are neat and substantial."

- ↑ "Son of George and Catherine Clink, was born near Greensprings, Sandusky county, Ohio, February 19, 1838, and died at his home, five miles west of Pleasant Lake, Steuben county, Indiana, March 16, 1916, aged 78 years and 26 days. He remained in Ohio until twenty years of age, then came to Steuben county, Indiana, where he became an apprentice at the carpenter's trade. August 25, 1861, he enlisted in Company A, 44th Indiana Infantry. He participated in all the battles of his regiment except Shiloh, when he was on the sick list. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served until the close of the war, being discharged Sept. 14, 1865. He was married to Catherine Ritter, Oct. 10, 1967. To this union were born six daughters, two of whom, Laura and Mrs. S.J.Allen, have preceded him in death. In the spring of 1869, Mr. and Mrs. Clink moved to the farm home west of Pleasant Lake, which has since been their continual residence for almost half a century. He leaves the widow, four daughters, Mrs. David Freed, Mrs. Chas. Libey, Mattie and Nellie Clink; five grandchildren, four brothers, a sister and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the home,Sunday, March 19th, at 1 o'clock, Rev. L.W.Love officiating."
