ILLNESS FATAL TO C. L. BONHAM
Charles Lemuel Bonham passed away early Monday morning, November 14, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Abbott, following a lingering illness.
Mr. Bonham was born the son of George C. and Mary M. Bonham, June 28, 1879, in Whitley County, Indiana. He was married to Ermina Mae Crumrine at Marion, Indiana, April 19, 1899. Nine children were born to this union. One son, Russell, passed away several years ago, and a daughter in infancy. The family came to Michigan about fifty years ago, living on farms in Clare County for a number of years, when they, moved to Pontiac, where he was employed.
His last job was with General Motors, until his retirement.
Mrs. Bonham suffered a stroke about eight years ago, and later was brought to a Convalescent Home at Evart. Mr. Bonham came to Clare in 1948 to visit his sister, and to be near his wife, when his health failed, and he remained in Clare. He spent five weeks in the Community Hospital at Mt. Pleasant for surgery, coming home a week ago, and seemed to be getting along fine until Thursday evening, when he became worse and passed away Monday at the age of 76 years.
He is survived by his wife Ermina, at the Rest Home in Farwell; three sons, Treston of Detroit; Charles of Pontiac; Emery of Farwell; four daughters, Mrs. Claretta Douglas; Mrs. Mae Sanders, Mrs. Dorothy Dehic, all of Pontiac, and Mrs. Zella Jorgenson of Dillard, Oregon; twenty grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Marshall of Clare, Will and Ora of Coffeyville, Kansas, and the one sister of Clare; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, November, 17 from the Doherty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Atkinson of the Church of the Brethren of Beaverton, officiating and interment in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Russell Thurston was in charge of arrangements. Clare Sentinel dated 17 November 1955
