From, "Orange County, NC Abstracts of the Minutes of the Inferior Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, 1777-1788," Alma Cheek Redden, reprinted Southern Historical Press, Inc., 1991: pg. 27 24th May 1784 Court "Ordered following Jury or any 12 lay out & mark the most convenient way from Shallow Fork of Haw River to the County Line towards Fayetville, to wit, Wm. Oneal, Wm. Gwinn, John Hatson [my note: Hudson?], Samuel James, James Ozburn, John Gwinn, Chamberlain Hutson, Anthony Cable,Henry Straden, Christopher Holt, Thos. H. Perkins, Jno. Albright, John Holt, jun., Lodowick Albright, Mich'l Cockletrees, Lewis Garner & make return next Court." This places the Hudsons on the Haw River in Orange Co. w/ the Gwins. This part of Orange Co. broke off to form Alamance Co. in 1849. This Haw River area of Alamance/Orange is in the nw quadrant. Orange Co. was a part of Granville Co. Couldn't find any Hudsons in the earlier Orange Co. court abstract book (1752-1766.) The records for 1767 to May 1777 are missing. Sumner Co. 1794 tax list shows taxes paid to the Militia. In Capt. Frazors Company : Chamberlain Hudson 228 acres. Edward Gwin 580 acres and James Gwin - acres.

I got the following information from a microfisch at the Foxboro LDS church. It is a hand written history of the Hudson family by Jonathan T. K. Smith and includes many references to back up his history. "Chamberlain Hudson was born Dec. 14, 1753, possibly in what was at that time, Granville Co, NC. As a young man he lived in Orange Co, NC. On the outbreak of the American Revolution, he espoused independence from Great Britton, enlisting May 7, 1776 in Capt. Trever's (name unclear} company, Third Regiment, Continental Army; promoted to sergeant, Oct 25, 1777; discharged after 2 1/2 years of infantry service, Oct 1778. Shortly afterwards, he re-enlisted in the Sixth North Carolina Regiment, Continental Line, commanded by Col. Archibald Little and remained in service until the wars end in 1783, thereby serving seven years in the Continental Army. He was awarded 640 acres as a payment for hismilitary service. On completing military service, Hudson returned to Orange Co, where he married and lived until 1792-93, when he and his family emigrated to Sumner Co, TN He and his wife, Margaret, ? lived in Orange County in 1792; as a resident of Sumner Co. in 1794, he sold more of his Carolina farmstead. As it had turned out, he had been granted 640 acres for his military service in middle TN. About the age of 58, in 1811, Chamberlain Hudson and several of his grown children moved yet again, this time to a settlement on Blue Creek, a tributary of Duck River, in Humphrey's Co. Having lived a worthwhile life, it was there that he died about 1826.**

• • Info from Smith, "Hudsons of Benton Co." gives death as 1826, but HFA bulletin gives it as 1843. I have used the HFA date until I find out otherwise.
