On Tuesday, the American people elected Dwight David Eisenhower as their 34th president, with Richard Milhouse Nixon as vice president. Richard M. Simpson was re-elected representative in Congress for his ninth term. On the local scene, Merrill W. Kerlin, young Mc- Connellsburg attorney, defeated his Democratic opponent, Ralph Berkstresser, for representative in the General Assembly by a vote of 1,983 to 1,838.

Because of the election on Tuesday, Amos Stouteagle, commissioners’ clerk, is now in possession of a signature which may become very valuable. As far as known, he is the only discharge in Fulton County of World War I to be signed by D.D. Eisenhower, captain of infantry.

John M. Spangler was the principal speaker at the Pegasus Club meeting in Hagerstown last Friday. He discussed the importance of salesmanship among all workers to provide greater productivity in the national economy.

Births: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Henry of Knobsville on October 29; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Barber of Robertsdale on November 4; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cutshall of McConnellsburg on November 4.

Grissinger Bros. celebrated the grand reopening of their newly redecorated market on Friday and Saturday. Winner of the grand prize on Saturday night was Mrs. Laverne Wermick of McConnellsburg. In addition, 24 baskets of groceries were given away with a drawing every hour.

More births: a daughter on October 30 to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bailey of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter on Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Gordon of Needmore.

J. Wayne Black, well-known educator, died in Spokane, Wash., on October 14. Born near Waterfall on March 4, 1897, he was a son of the late Daniel M. and Laura (Alloway) Black.

Donald W. Mellott, fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rankin J. Mellott of Websters Mill, is now serving aboard the submarine Grenadier, attached to the Atlantic Fleet.

The local VFW Post has presented a check for $275 to the Medical Center for the purchases of a croupette, a major piece of equipment used to combat croup and other respiratory diseases in babies and children.

A telegram to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson of Clear Ridge last week advised them that their son, Dean, had been wounded in the head in Korea. No further details were given. Another son, Ephriam, is also serving in Korea.

Linda Knepper marked her fifth birthday on Thursday.

Pam Fraker has retuned to her home at Fort Littleton after spending a week in Chambersburg Hospital for observation.
