Cecelia Emilyse Cleveland Bartee lost her husband George Flynn Bartee when their daughter Mary Louise was barely six months old. She returned to Mobile, AL after the death of her husband to live with her sisters Alabama and Miranda. She met Captain Washington Jefferson/Cappy Frisbee, a boarder at the house, and they were engaged when she contracted tuberculosis. She was sent to the Hygeia Sanatorium in Citronell, Alabama where she died before her daughter was three years old. Cappy,promised to care for, love and support her daughter Mary Louise.
