CASSIE KANE Mrs. Cassie Riley Kane, 74, died at 10:20 o'clock last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. J. Travis, on Seventh and Hickory streets. She had suffered a paralytic stroke Thursday evening and was unconscious for most of the time since then to the time of her death. She will be buried at Prairie Dell cemetery, near the edge of which she came as a bride sixty years ago. Dolemn Requiem high mass will be said by the Rev. Fr. F. A. Cleary at St. Edmund's Catholic church, Watseka, at 10 o'clock Friday morning, and pallbearers will be two sons and four grandsons of the deceased, Morris D. and William T. Kane, LaVerne Eastburn, Morris, William, Bernard and Donald Kane. The body will remain until burial at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Eastburn, on North Fifth Street. Born October 17, 1858, in Philidelphia, Mrs. Kane was one of a family of thirteen children, the only one now surviving being a sister, Sister M. Aneta of Evanston, a nun in the Dominican Order. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Cleary) Riley. She became the wife of Morris Kane on August 9, 1874, and they lived on a section farm northeast of Watseka until his death, April 23, 1890. Four children were born who survive, Morris D. Kane of Joliet, William T., Mrs. Mabel M. Eastburn and Mrs. Roma A. Travis, all of Watseka. After the death of her husband she came to Watseka and bought a cottage here in which she lived for seven years. Since that time she has lived at the home of her daughter, Mrs O. J. Travis." She died at age 74 years, 7 months, and 19 days, and was a housewife. Her father was Thomas Riley who was born in Ireland, and her mother was Mary Cleary born in Ireland. The informant was Mabelle K. Eastburn whose Post Office address was Watseka. Cassie was buried in the Prairie Dell Cem., in Concord, Iroquois, Ill. Death date was June 7, 1933. Resident of Watseka--7th and Hickory Street. Widowed. According to Patrick Kane, Cassie had 12 brothers and sisters. |
