Nicholas served in the 2nd Battalion, Augusta County Militia under Captain Peter Hull. Captain Peter Hull was his Brother n law. Barbara Peninger married Peter Hull. In 1778 Nicholas served as First Lieutenant in Captain John McCoy's Company of Augusta County Militia.
