Catharina signed the contract for coming to the United States on Marh 23, 1869. Her passport was dated May 1, 1869. she and six of her children left Switzerland for the United States on the ship Westphalia.

The Westphalia Hamburg-American Line built by Caird and Company, Greenock, Scotland.

With them were Elizabeth Lauber, who was either the sister or sister-in-law of Catharina, Maria Roth, presumable the sister of Catharina's late husband, Benedict and John Stauffer

Catharina and five of her children (Anna having died during the vovage) arrived in the United states in 1869 and settled briely at Morton, IL where Christian, the oldest son was living. The family soon moved toWaldo Township, Livingston County, IL where Catharina spent the remainder of her life.
