    Carrel F. Johnson, 82, of North Vernon died at 8:24 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006, at his home. Mr. Johnson was the owner and operator of Carrel F. Johnson State Farm Insurance in North Vernon for 46 years. A 1941 graduate of Versailles High School, he was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church and the Jennings county Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Lions Club. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon. He sponsored and coached a girls softball team for several years and went to the state finals with his team. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, farming, cattle, traveling and spending time with his family. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Beck officiating. Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Centerville Cemetery in Jennings County with military graveside honors by North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of Jennings County or the American Lung Association. Mr. Johnson was born in Estill Co., Kentucky, the son of Fred and Gladys Thomas Johnson. He married Patricia Strope on August 14, 1965, in North Vernon. Surviving with his wife are sons, Barry Johnson of Brown County and Alex (Julie) Johnson of North Vernon; daughters, Linda (Dennis) Vogel and Ami (Bill) Fields, both of North Vernon; brothers, Louis Johnson and Donald Johnson, both of North Vernon, and Palmer Johnson of Columbus; sisters, Josephine Smith of Statesboro, Georgia, Eugenia Riddell of North Vernon, Arvedia Armstrong of Pensacola, Florida, Juanita Singleton of Middletown, Dorothy Dilk of Versailles, and Kathleen Holley of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and grandchildren, Aaron Miles of Madison, David Miles of Muncie, Susan Miles Ellenwood of Seattle, and Daniel Vogel, Helen Fields and Chloe Fields, all of North Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanford Johnson; and a sister, Edith Johnson.
