Donald Johnson, 87, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Born January 15, 1927 in Irvin, KY, Donald was the son of the late Fred and Gladys Thomas Johnson. On August 1, 1947, he married Betty Jane Armstrong. She survives. Donald retired from Arvins after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, splitting wood, gardening and raising bird dogs. Donald is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Kimmy Johnson of North Vernon; daughter, Karen Beeman of Kent; three sisters, Juanita Singleton of North Vernon, Dorotha Dilk of Pekin, and Kathleen Holly of Bowling Green, KY; and brother, Louis Johnson of North Vernon; four grandchildren, Lisa Wools and Ryan, Angie and Eddie Beeman; seven great grandchildren, Sydney McCammon, Korbin and Kendall Krise, Brayten Beeman, and Morgan, Carson and Keaton Wools. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Carrel, Stanford and Palmer Johnson. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Sand Creek Township. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption of Jennings County.
