John Fairfull SMITH 1st married 1831 or 12jun1830 Caroline TURNER (possibly born 8oct1808 in Edinburgh or abroad and died 2jan1849 in Glasgow) and 2nd married, 10jan1850, in Dumfries and Barony, Alexandrina THOMSON. Alexandrina was born abt 1830 at Dumfries (1851 census). 1841 census registers John F. Smith, writer to the Signet, born about 1806, 19 Great Stuart St., Edinburgh, with his wife Caroline, born about 1808 abroad, family and 3 servants. John Fairfull Smith, W. S., of Old Auchindraine, Ayrshire, and Westfield, Dunbartonshire was a Commissioner of Supply in both counties. John purchased Auchindrane in 1856 and built a noble mansion. Mr. Smith married 1st Caroline Turner, 3rd daughter of Dutton Smith Turner, of Clarendon, Jamaica, and 2nd Alexandrina Monilaws Thomson, 2nd daughter of William Thomson of Woodhouse, Dumfriesshire (J. Paterson). John Fairfull Smith, W.S., Edinburgh, married Caroline, 3rd daughter of Dutton Smith Turner of Clarendon, Jamaica sep1830 at London (Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine). Dutton Smith Turner (d. 1816 Jamaica), English by birth, was a prosperous planter in Jamaica; his wife was a creole of English parentage, Mary Gale Redwar (Edinburgh Philosophical Journal, p.228).
