Caroline moved with her parents from her birthplace, Menomonee Falls, to Graneville, Wisconsin, while still a small child. At age 6, her family moved to Lewiston, Winona Co., Minnesota, where they settled on a farm about a mile west of the village, now known as the Harry Brown farm. The family lived there for 6 years, then spent 2 years in Lewiston, and then moved to Silo.

Caroline had 17 grandchildren in 1930.
