    Gene L. Greentree, 78 of Mt. Victory passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Kenton, Ohio on August 31, 1946, to Carl and Mary (Ellis) Greentree. Gene graduated from Jesup High School in Jesup, Iowa in 1964 and later Gates Business College, Waterloo, Iowa. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Airforce from 1965-1969. On August 30, 1969, he married Sherry A. Woodard, and she survives, along with daughters; Annette (Phill) Gill of Scott, Ohio and Carla (Vern III) Woodruff of Kenton, Ohio. Gene is also survived by grandchildren; Nathanael and Sarah Gill, Vern IV, Carl and Mariann Woodruff, brother, Jay (Jean) Greentree of Rochester, MN and stepbrother, Gerald Althauser of Kenton and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Belle Greentree, stepfather, Edward Althauser and brother, Mac Greentree. Mr. Greentree worked at Eaton Axel and Rockwell International. He was a salesman for Surge Sanitation Products, Seyferts Potato Chips and Frito Lay Products. In his younger years he helped his family with farming. Gene was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Kenton where he served as a Sunday School teacher and song leader for many years. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, reading Allen Eckert books and playing chess. He also enjoyed mowing and took great pride in his yard and how it looked. He enjoyed playing golf and would help around the club house at Memorial Park Golf Course where he was also a hole monitor for tournaments. Gene loved attending retreats at Beaulah Beach. Later in life, Gene enjoyed participating in Civil War reenactments with his family with the 4th OVI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME and for one hour (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM) Friday prior to the service. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Kenton with Rev. Steve Hess and Rev. Tom Hanks officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Hardin County VFW Post 1994.
