Carl Damon was born on April 14, 1908. He was the third child of Wayland “Bill” Damon and Louisa Rolfe. He grew up in Millersburg, Ohio with his two older sisters, Ruth and Mabel. They moved several times over the years, though never more than a few blocks, living first on Mad Anthony Street, then on Washington, and finally on East Jackson St. Carl was an outgoing young man. Even in the earliest pictures we can see his energy and fun.

Carl married Marian Painter on January 4, 1930 at the home of Marian's parents in Loudonville.

Carl and Marian moved to Lakewood, Ohio as Carl had recently found work at Ohio Bell in Cleveland. The April 1930 Census, taken April 12, shows them living at 13312 Merl Avenue in Lakewood, OH in an apartment which they rented for $45 / mo. – an amount that was $10 a month more than his father was paying to rent the home place back on Jackson Street in Millersburg.

Carl would go on to work for the Ohio Bell Company for 40 years. Employment there staved off the worst of the depression for the Damon family. They were blesed with a daughter in 1931 and another followed in 1940. In 1970 Carl retired from the phone company and the couple bought a retirement home in the new park of Holiday Shores. For a while the couple commuted back and forth spring and fall between Ohio and Florida, but eventually the trip became too much of a hassle and Seminole became their permanent home for their remaining years. Their health was good and they enjoyed family and friends well into their 80’s, but time eventually calls us all.

Dad`s (Carl Damon's) driving lesson. The day started out perfect...Dad and I in the car...him teaching me how to back out of the drive...left me alone to continue practicing...he went to the basement, where he could observe me through the window facing the drive. He mentioned several times...use ONLY the side and rear view mirrors when backing out...NEVER open the door to guide yourself by looking at the ground. Still I felt compelled to try it one time...backing up, the drivers door caught the clothes pole in the side yard...door pulled back into the fender...quite a bit of damage to both door and fender. That`s the fastest I ever saw Dad move...he was beside the car in an instant...I didn`t even have time to think up an excuse. He said...and I remember his exact words..."I am so mad, I can`t even talk to you now...go to your room." This occurred in the morning...I wasn`t summoned until afternoon. BTW...it was a brand new car he`d only had a few weeks...1947 Dodge, I think.
