- Bryant Edmondson is listed in his father’s will, proved in 1715, but apparently written some years earlier.Whether son of Thomas’ first or second wife is not clear.He was left land on the east side of the Samuel Perry Swamp, the main swamp. - The surviving records of Caroline, primarily court records, show “Bryan Edmoundson” and five others were fined in 1737 for “tending seconds” in violation of tobacco production laws and had to pay1000 pounds of tobacco as penalty.He assisted in 1737 with the care of two public wards, John and Charles Walton, who were bound to him.He served once on the jury in the years 1732-45, jurymen chosen by the magistrates from landholders in whom they had confidence. - Bryant Edmondson was in Edgecombe County, N.C. in 1751 as a deed in Essex County, dated October 29, conveyed 130 acres of land in South Farnham Parish, from Bryant Edmundson and his wife Mary of Edgecombe to Hugh Wilson of Virginia, for 35 pounds, formerly belonging to James Boughan, adjoining John Smith, Ths. Barker, to the east branch & west branch of the Main Pocoson (swamp) down the said swamp to the land of John Smith, said land being in South Farnham Parish.Signed by Bryant Edmondson and Mary Edmondson with her mark. - Mary Edmondson was very probably the daughter of John Haile of Essex whose will, dated August 17, 1744, mentions his daughter Mary Edmondson. He named five other children: Francis Haile, John Haile, Thomas Haile, Benjamin Haile and Susanna Allen.John Haile’s wife would appear to beMary Haile who with John Haile presented the will for probate Oct. 16, 1744.Wife Mary Haile and son John Haile were executors.James Allen and Andrew Allen were witnesses.Francis Haile (Hale) was likely the man who replaced Bryant Edmondson as overseer of the road in Caroline County, Virginia.(See WILLS OF ESSEX COUNTY, p. 214).Hailes moved to Bedford County where Elizabeth Edmondson, daughter of Richard, was married to Richard Haile who died in 1784. Proposed children of Bryant and Mary Haile Edmondson:
1. Richard Edmondson, b. in Essex County, moved to Caroline and then moved to Bedford/Franklin County, Virginia and died in 1788.Many of his family moved to Georgia about 1790. Numerous descendants. 2. John Edmondson who married Susannah Norman in Caroline County and died about 1750. No known children. 3. Bryant Edmondson, Jr. who married Sarah Farr. He moved to Halifax County, NC, with his father and mother and lived on Great Quankey Creek. He moved on to Onslow County, NC, about 1759-60where he died about 1769. 4. William Edmondson. Not proved as a son but closely associated with Bryant, Sr., and Bryant, Jr. as they surveyed their new land in NC.Probably a son. 5. Joseph Edmondson who owned an ordinary in Halifax County.Associated with Bryant, William and Bryant, Jr., in surveys of land bought in Halifax County. Probably a son.Wife was Mariannah. No known descendants. 6. Thomas Edmondson who died in 1792.Possibly a son. He was married to Elizabeth, thought to be Smith.One son was Ambrose Edmondson.A Rowan County deed mentions land of Ambrose Joshua Smith, 640 acreson Waters of Deep Creek, adjoining Thomas Edmondson, Nov. 7, 1755. Thomas made a will in Edgecombe County, NC, in 1778, and died there in 1792. Thus if these are the same, he returned to Edgecombe from Rowan or possibly bought land in Rowan on which he never lived.
