Dear Frank & Claire - I tried to tell Mom that you were probably after roots or more of a family tree but she said it would be too much write. I'll try to tell you some of the things she has told me. When she comes to visit me in Brigantine she talks of her life and things that have happened to her. Her sister, Mary, was in this country before her and she sent Mom the passage to come to America. The passage was received in Ireland two days after her brother Sonny (Martin) died. Mom had to leave Ireland two weeks after her brother was buried. Her father wanted her to send the passage back to Aunt Mary and wait another year to leave but Mom said she would leave then. Your great-grandfather said he would let her go if she promised to come back within five years. She said she would and fully intended to go back but wages were very small (the highest paid living out girl got was $6.00 per week). Then she met your grandfather and they got married. She met your grandfather through mutual friends, there was a crowd that always got together and he was in the crowd and that is how they met. After they were married they lived on Heiskel Street, then moved to Lena Street, two different houses on Collom Street, Herman Street and finally Stafford Street. All the houses were in some part of Germantown. Your grandfather's family lived on High Street in Germantown. William Cassidy married Anna McCarthy and they had: John, Joe, Sara, Helen, Tom, Mary, Anna, Michael, Bridget, Elizabeth and Jim. Sara Cassidy married Jim Broderick (Veronica, Mary, Ann, Gertrude, Catherine) John Cassidy married Mary Duffy (Bill, John, Margaret, Mary, Catherine, Tom, Patsy) Joe Cassidy married Helen Rooney (Helen) Helen Cassidy married Bill Brazil Tom Cassidy married Bridget Agnes Kilgallon (see below) Mary Cassidy married Warren Gumringer, Joe Marshall (Bridget Gumringer later called herself Dot Marshall) Anna Cassidy married Ed Morrissey (Anna) Michael Cassidy married Helen (?), Ebba (?) (w/Helen - Francis, Howard, Carl) (w/Ebba - Darlene) Bridget died I believe at age 7 Elizabeth married Bob Ford (2 boys and 1 girl, Mary) Jim married Marie (?) (Marie and Jim) Patrick Kilgallon married Bridget Gallagher and they had: Martin (Sonny) - d Mary Kilgallon married John T Cassidy (Tom, John, Peg, Phil, Vince, Joe) Bridget Agnes Kilgallon married Thomas Cassidy (Bill, Vince, John, Tom, Marie, Frances, Kathleen, Theresa, Nancy, Joe, Claire) Patrick - d Ned Kilgallon married Bridget McDonald (Mary Theresa) Tony lived in England Anna Kilgallon married Jim Corcoran (Joe, Anna Marie, Edmund, Johnny) John Kilgallon married Millicent (?) - lived in England Bridget Agnes Kilgallon and Thomas Cassidy: Bill Cassidy married Mary Boyle (Patsy, Joan, Tom, Bernadette, Eileen) Vince Cassidy married Mildred Lentz (Donna, Janice, Christine, Andrea, Carol, Mark, Paul) John Francis died one month old Thomas Cassidy killed in the second world war Marie Cassidy married Jim O'Donnell (Marie Estelle, Jim, Nancy, Tom, Cathy) Frances Cassidy married Joe Wright (Frank, Joe, Fred, Miriam, Agnes, John, Gerry) Kathleen Cassidy married Dick Adams (Mary, Kathy) Theresa Cassidy married Jim Platt Nancy Cassidy married John Kirk (Roger, Janice, Barbara, Tom) Joe Cassidy married Alice Ann Freund (Colleen, Carolyn, Kevin) Claire Cassidy married Walter Long (Thomas (died as a baby) - Walt, Bob, Dennis, David) Patsy Cassidy & Jim Shulz - 5 children Joan Cassidy & Bob Croke - 5 children (one more due in November) Tom Cassidy & Leona Paolina - 3 children Bernadette Cassidy & Ed Silverthorn - 6 children Eileen Cassidy & Tom Tipet - (one on the way) Marie Estelle O'Donnell & Bob Horrocks - 4 children Jim O'Donnell & Donna Wiley - 3 children Nancy O'Donnell & Leo Barthold - 3 children Tom O'Donnell & Mary McMullan - 3 children Cathy O'Donnell & Jack O'Brien Frank Wright & Claire McCarthy - 1 child Joe Wright & Charlene Hand Fred Wright & Pam Wetherill - 2 children Miriam Wright & John Keeting - 1 child, Erick Erickson - 1 child Mary Adams & Bruce Brinkman - 2 children Kathy Adams & Bob Kaighn - 1 child (2 boys from Bob's previous marriage) Vince has two girls married and each has a child, Christine has a boy but I am not sure what Carol had and I don't know their names or their husband's. Your great-grandfather's brother and his wife died in Ireland leaving 4 children who came to the United States to be raised by your great-grandfather and great-grandmother. They were John T. (14 yrs. old), Mary (11 yrs. old), Sally (9 yrs. old) and Julie (7 yrs. old). John T. sold the family farm and brought his younger sisters to your great-grandparent's home. Later John T. married Mary Kilgallon (your grandmother's sister) making John T. an uncle as well as a cousin on your grandfather's side. Mary Cassidy married Jack Killeen and Sally Cassidy married Tom Killeen (they were brothers) and Julie Cassidy married Tom Sheridan. If you can follow this, John T.'s son Vince has a son Mark. Sally's daughter Peggy has a daughter Donna Bonacorrsi. They are both in their early twenties. They met a few years ago and did not know they were related and the last I heard they plan to marry when Donna is finished college. That's what comes of having a big family, they get spread all over and you don't know half of them. The only reason I mentioned this side of the family is to clear up all the Uncle John's and Aunt Mary's. You know, Frank, there are a lot of little stories wrapped up in the family if told it would probably make a best seller. Sometimes I think about it but I never do any thing about it. In closing, I work for Shell Oil Company, Offshore Drilling. They have a rig drilling for oil in the Atlantic Ocean. This is a temporary office unless they find oil in the Atlantic Ocean. Our main office is in New Orleans, Louisiana. My boss is here temporary and he makes his home in Conroe, Texas. Your mother said you are not far from Texas perhaps you know where that is. Take care, love to all. Love, Aunt Kay P.S. Since writing this letter I received a little more information from Mom. When she came to America her boat docked in Philadelphia. Her sister, Mary, met her and until she found a job she stayed with her Aunt and Uncle who lived in South Philadelphia. Her grandfather (Edward Gallagher) owned a mill. Although both her grandmothers' names were Campbell they were not related. Mom lost track of her brothers in England for years and when your Uncle Tom was stationed in England he advertised in English papers for where abouts of her brothers and that is how they got touch with each other again.
