!NOTES: Bessie attended Wayne State college at Wayne, NE before graduating from the University of Chicago, IL. She served as a teacher at rural schools in Nebraska and at public schools in Hudson, Chancellor, Beresford, and Brookings. After marriage, Bessie made her home with her husband in Beresford for the rest of her life. She spent fifteen of those years in Beresford as librarian and later served as president of the city library board.
