1 NOTE Member of St. Anne's Society of St. Joseph's Church Obit says she was in the city (Springfield) for 60 years, she died at 79 so she would have been 19 when she came to MA. Obit also notes that she left 33 grandchildren and 51g-grandchildren. Waked at George St. Pierre & Son funeral home & requiem mass at St. Joseph's. Obit lists: Mrs. William Gokey, also known as Bertha Gauthier Her son Harold was in charge of funeral (St. Pierre Funeral Home- int. 11/23/98)

"Bertha had a big feather bed- had all of her children at home. I always wondered how she could give birth to a baby in that bed. The doctor would come and Willie would heat up the water. When Octavie was alive she knew how to deliver the babies,she was a midwife." 2 SOUR S44
