Benjamin held several civil offices and was at one time Justice in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He was a Quaker and at one time "Over-Seer" in the Friends' Meetings. he served until 1715 as a private in Captain John Moore's 3d Company of Colonel Thomas Fearmars' Regiment of the New Jersey Militia.
