Facts and Events
Quote copied from "The Record", 1912, page 77: Benjamin Smith left a will dated the 19th of March, 1766, which was probated the 17th of May, 1768, and recorded in Libert 26 of Wills, page 303, in the office of the Surrogate of the county of New York. (New York Historical Society Collections, 1898, pp. 174-175.) In it is mentioned his wife Amy; his daughter Amy, wife of Amos Smith; his three sons, Benjamin, Samuel and John; the sons of his daughter, Phebe Tredwell, wife of Thomas Tredwell, namely, John and Benjamin Tredwell; the children John Jackson, Jr. had by his granddaughter, Charity*; the children of his daughter, Mary Titus, deceased, namely, Austin, James and Phebe Titus; his daughter-in-law, Millicent Betts.**
With no known birthdates, it was uncertain which wife was the mother of Benjamin's children or even the order of their birth. But Phebe is said (on pg 81) to be daughter of Charity Tredwell. And Hannah Denton Tredwell's will on pg 318 lists the two daughters of her daughter Charity Tredwell to be Phebe Tredwell and Mary Smith. References
