From Revolutionary War Pension Statement of Richard Plummer (1758-1838) of Bladen County, NC:

State of North Carolina Cumberland County: Court of Pleas & quarter Sessions September Term 1832

On this 8th day of September A.D. 1832 personally appeared in open Court before the Court aforesaid now sitting Richard Plummer residing in the County & State aforesaid aged seventy-four years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he entered the Service of the United States under the following officers and served as herein stated. He first entered the service in the County of Smith field State of Rhode Island under Captain John Angel Company attached to the Regiment commanded by Colonel Hitchcock this was by enlistment for a tour of nine months after the expiration of this tour which was performed in the year 1776 a year or 2 after he removed to the State of North Carolina where he entered the service for 9 months in Captain Thomas Devane's Company of Militia which was attached to Colonel William Lord's Regiment he entered the service in Bladen County State aforesaid marched from there to the town of Wilmington where he we remained several months from there to Duplin Court House where I had a furlough for three months. I then came to Cape Fear River I served during this service 6 months. I again entered the service as a substitute for Thomas Locke in Captain Elias Fort's Company of Militia attached to Colonel Caswell's Regiment of North Carolina Militia we marched from Cumberland County into South Carolina & joined the Continental troops under General Lincoln at the Battle of Stono though our company was not in the engagement. After the expiration of my tour of service which was for three months I received a discharge & returned home. I again entered the service as a substitute for Benjamin Lansdale in Captain Joseph Wood's company which was attached to Colonel Thomas Owen's Regiment marched from the County to South Carolina where we joined General Gates Army was in the Battle of Camden where our troops were defeated we retreated into North Carolina & rendezvoused at Cross Creek now Fayetteville & was marched thence to Hillsborough thence to the Haw fields where I was discharged. I again entered the service as a volunteer in Captain Peter Robinson's Company of militia & was in actual service under him in pursuit of the Tories & served in several tours at least 12 months -- during this service I Company was attached to Colonel Brown's Regiment & we were in the Battle at Elizabethtown where we beat the Tories.
