    State of North Carolina Cumberland County: Court of Pleas & quarter Sessions September Term 1832
    On this 8th day of September A.D. 1832 personally appeared in open Court before the Court aforesaid now sitting Richard Plummer residing in the County & State aforesaid aged seventy-four years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he entered the Service of the United States under the following officers and served as herein stated. He first entered the service in the County of Smith field State of Rhode Island under Captain John Angel Company attached to the Regiment commanded by Colonel Hitchcock this was by enlistment for a tour of nine months after the expiration of this tour which was performed in the year 1776 a year or 2 after he removed to the State of North Carolina where he entered the service for 9 months in Captain Thomas Devane's Company of Militia which was attached to Colonel William Lord's Regiment he entered the service in Bladen County State aforesaid marched from there to the town of Wilmington where he we remained several months from there to Duplin Court House where I had a furlough for three months. I then came to Cape Fear River I served during this service 6 months. I again entered the service as a substitute for Thomas Locke in Captain Elias Fort's Company of Militia attached to Colonel Caswell's Regiment of North Carolina Militia we marched from Cumberland County into South Carolina & joined the Continental troops under General Lincoln at the Battle of Stono though our company was not in the engagement. After the expiration of my tour of service which was for three months I received a discharge & returned home. I again entered the service as a substitute for Benjamin Lansdale in Captain Joseph Wood's company which was attached to Colonel Thomas Owen's Regiment marched from the County to South Carolina where we joined General Gates Army was in the Battle of Camden where our troops were defeated we retreated into North Carolina & rendezvoused at Cross Creek now Fayetteville & was marched thence to Hillsborough thence to the Haw fields where I was discharged. I again entered the service as a volunteer in Captain Peter Robinson's Company of militia & was in actual service under him in pursuit of the Tories & served in several tours at least 12 months -- during this service I Company was attached to Colonel Brown's Regiment & we were in the Battle at Elizabethtown where we beat the Tories. These several tours were the last of his service.
    Answers to Interrogatories of the War Department
    1. I was born in the County of Smithfield State of Rhode Island in the month of June 1758
    2nd. I have not
    3. I have already described my residences up to the Close of the War since which I have lived in the County of Cumberland & now reside there.
    4. I have already stated the nature of my service.
    5th. I have stated the particulars in answer to this Question as fully in my declaration as I can.
    6. I have rec'd discharges but have lost or mislaid them.
    7. I would state Colonel Charles McAlister, John McDaniel, Jonathan Evans & John Kelly Esquire I could state others if required.
    He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a Pension or Annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of any State or the agency of any State.

    State of North Carolina Cumberland County: Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions marched term A.D. 1833
    Present the Worshipful Esik Arnold, John Brown & Daniel Baker Justices of said Court
    On the 8th day of March 1833 personally appeared in open court the court aforesaid Richard Plummer a resident of said County & State aged seventy-four years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following further Declaration in addition to a declaration heretofore made in said Court at September Term 1832 in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That in the year 1776 he served in Captain John Angel's Company in the State of Rhode Island a tour of nine months, that in the year 1778 he served at the Captain Thomas Devane's Company in the State of North Carolina a tour of 6 months, in the year following I served three months in Captain Elias Fort's Company in the State of North Carolina having been marched from the State 8 or 12 months thereafter I again entered the service under Captain JosephWood & served three months during which time I was in the Battle of Camden 5 or 6 months thereafter I again entered the service under Captain Peter Robeson as a Minute Man & served several tours during this & the following year, twelve months. And the said Richard Plummer further declares that he is not aware of any individual who was in service with him who now survives except Captain Nathan King1

    [fn p. 9: on October 27, 1843 in Bladen County North Carolina, Susanna Plummer, 76, filed for a widow's pension under the 1838 act stating that she is the widow of Richard Plummer, a pensioner at the rate of $40 per annum for his services in the revolution; that she married him March 4, 1790; that he died February 17 1838 and that she remains his widow.]

    This day Stephen Hollingsworth Senior2
    Sworn to & subscribed before me this the 15th day of May 1833 of said County aged 79 years personally appeared before the undersigned a Justice of the Peace in and for the said County, who being duly sworn deposes and saith that he is well acquainted with Richard Plummer of said County that he became acquainted with said Plummer during the Revolutionary War, that said Plummer was in the service with this Deponent in Captain Peter Robeson's company of Light Horse that this Deponent knows that said Plummer served in said Corps to the knowledge of this Deponent at least 9 months that Captain Robeson's company was attached to Colonel Thomas Brown's Regiment which was afterwards commanded by Colonel Thomas Robeson & Colonel Thomas Owen.

    This day Zachariah Reeves3, a resident of said County aged about 77 years personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace in and for said County who being duly sworn Deposeth & saith that he is well acquainted with Richard Plummer of said County that he knew said Plummer during the Revolutionary War, that he knows that said Plummer served in Captain Peter Robeson's company of Light Horse at least 9 months that said company was attached to the Regiment successively commanded by Colonels Brown, Robeson & Owen.
