From Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Benjamin Haines, age 85, applied for a pension on 22 May, 1878, claiming he was a private in Capt. Burgett's [Burgess'] Co. of DM Militia during the War of 1812. He stated he volunteered on 1 Aug 1814 and was discharged in Oct 1814. After his discharge, he resided in AA Co, MD, until about 1828, when he returned to Carroll Co. where he bought his residence in Mechanicsville. He was described as having black hair and light colored eyes, and as being 5'10" in height. William H. Lamotte and Edwin Shipley were witnesses. His application was rejected on 23 Sep 1878 because his name was not shown on the rolls of either Capt. Roderick Burgess or Capt. Thomas Burgess.
