Benjamin Brown was the father of Basil Anderson Brown

Benjamins Brown was born in St Kitts and Nevis. Slavery was abolished in St Kitts in 1883, our patriarch Benjamin Brown died in 1942, five years before the birth of his grandson Charles Brown Sr and 59 years after slavery was abolished. If he was not born into slavery, he would have been close to it and would still have suffered from the after-effects, I believe. From his picture, he was handsome and classy. He's our patriarch.

Benjamin was married to the beautiful Louisa Wilkerson, our matriarch. We don't know when she died, but we can assume she was similar in age to Benjamin. She looks beautiful, dignified, joyful. She has a lovely subtle smile on her face in that picture, accentuating her beautiful, feminine cheekbones.

Together, they had at least one child, a son, Basil Anderson Brown. They maybe weren't born physically free, but regardless, they died free. They worked hard. They had a family. They lived for us, maybe unknowingly.
