- Source:Stetson, Oscar Frank. Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson of Scituate, Massachusetts, Sixteen Hundred and Thirty-Four, shows two Bathshebas: 1) daughter of Robert, with almost nothing found in the records regarding either, and 2) daughter of Joseph whose birth is found and matches very well the known age at death of William Holmes' widow. Given that no will for either possible father has been found, nor is mentioned, no evidence has been found for not assigning this Bathsheba to William Holmes. Source:Barry, John Stetson. Genealogical and Biographical Sketch of the Name and Family of Stetson is the source for naming some of Robert's children, but he does not include a daughter Bathsheba so the grounds upon which Stetson gives Robert a daughter Bathsheba is unknown. Barry does, however, say the daughter of Joseph is the one who m. 30 Jan 1722-3 Samuel Gardner (marriage record found in Pembroke VRs). No further record of Samuel Gardner/Garnet of Pembroke and his wife Bathsheba has been located, so no basis for assigning this parentage is known. There are several deeds for Samuel Gardner of Pembroke, but Bathsheba is not mentioned in any of them, there are no children, or death record found. William Holmes of Pembroke, on the other hand, has a couple of real estate transactions involving or with Joseph Stetson Jr., including Vol. 24, folio 176 where he sells land bounded by Joseph and Nehemiah (i.e., possibly an inheritance from Bathsheba's father?), though direct evidence of a relationship is found.
