On the 1790 census, Zachariah had 4 males over age 16 — himself and three sons. If Basil was over 16 in 1790, he must have been born before 1775. And assuming he was the third son, Basil was likely born about 1774. That birth date puts him in the right age categories on the census in 1800, 1810, and 1820.

Although many say Basil was born in 1783 (which would also fit the census age categories), that would not allow for brothers Aaron and Charles both known to be under 16 on the 1790 census.
