History of Vermont, p. 142: Settlement of Pomfret, VT, was started with the arrival 6 Mar 1770 of Bartholomew Durkee, from Pomfret, CT, with his wife and five children "drawing their furniture on handsleds" along a snowshoe path. John, s/o Bartholomew, b. 25 Dec 1770, was the first child born in town.
