Barnard Charles Sinfield was baptised on 17th June 1833 at Little Brickhill in Buckinghamshire, son of a labourer and Chelsea Pensioner called Thomas Sinfield and his wife Elizabeth. He appears to have been generally known by his middle name.
Charles appears in the 1841 and 1851 censuses living with his parents at Little Brickhill. By 1851 he was working as an agricultural labourer.
On 10th February 1859, aged 25, Charles married Eusebia Lewis, whose parents ran the King's Arms in Little Brickhill. By this time Charles was working as a railway porter, presumably based at nearby Bletchley railway station. Charles and Eusebia had two children together: William in 1859 and Eusebia (who appears to have been known as Annie) in 1862. The 1861 census finds the family living at Bletchley Row in Fenny Stratford.
Eusebia died in 1862, aged 24, either giving birth to her daughter or shortly afterwards; young Eusebia's birth was registered between July and September 1862, whereas her mother was buried on 28th September 1862.
By the time of the 1871 census Charles and his two children had returned to Little Brickhill, living with his widowed mother. Charles was also no longer working as a railway porter, but as a labourer.
Charles has not been found in the 1881 census.[8] However, it appears that his son William had recently deserted from the Bedfordshire Militia, being reported absent in local newspapers in March 1881, the month before the census.
Charles appears to have died in 1883, aged 50.

- ↑ There was a Charles Sinfield from Woburn (an adjoining parish to Little Brickhill) in the Southwark St Olave district of London, but that was a different man - he can be found in Woburn in the 1851 census and in Southwark in the 1871 census.
